First Flight

M-J Kelley's drawing of two parents watching their baby bird's first liftoff.

InkTober 2021. Day 27.

With raw nerves, parents watch as their baby “lift off.”

In the spring, the robins’ nest and then several weeks later, a jaw gaping hungry bird appears. And a few weeks after that, we see fledgelings.

I have to say I get a little nervous about the fledgelings. They either leap off of tall ledges or hop on the ground waiting for flight to happen. Sometimes they are on the grass for a long time. That makes me a little nervous. I am relieved when they do take off.
