Fig Tree

M-J Kelley's drawing of a fig tree. The beauty of figs! Such plump, delicate, delicious fruit!

InkTober 2021. Day 17.

I absolutely love figs! They say peaches are the perfect fruit for nutrition, but you can’t beat the culminating facts of the simple fig; delicious; tactile (plump, full, and delicate); visual (a stunning deep plum or a bright green).

So with all of that, it just made sense to draw a tree built with the actual fruit. Each fig, sitting on top of or folding into the next, like a perfect puzzle, each producing a single leaf.

I recently read an article in the NY Times about a book called “Growing Figs in Cold Climate” it’s by Lee Reich. Living in a cold climate, I am truly interested in trying this. And wouldn’t that be something to see.
