Growing Old Together

M-J Kelley Studio - InkTober 2020 - Day 1 - Growing Old Together

Sometimes I start a drawing, and it just sits unfinished. That is what happened to this drawing. It sat unfinished for almost a year.

I think the notion of “this is us, growing old together” is poetic and romantic. However, the drawing itself was neither. Instead, it was “rocky.”

So I thought a little more about it.

Sometimes people in a relationship see things very differently. Some see relationship problems as “bumps in the road.” Others see them as “boulders.” It is all about perspective.

Regardless of how they are seen, the only way around them or over them is to communicate. These rocks don’t go away. They just pile up. But by talking about them, a relationship endures and grows old together.
